Jude the Obscure (Barnes & Noble Classics Series)

Jude the Obscure - Thomas Hardy I had recorded the movie "Jude" (1996: with Christopher Eccleston and Kate Winslet) and decided to see it a few days ago and then to read the book, which I did. The reason why I decided to see the film first (contrary to what I normally do), is that I had an idea I wouldn't like the book that much. And I was right. I don't really know what it is about books like these, but I generally don't like them. Is it because there is too much tragedy and drama going on, or that I get nervous about the indecisive characters, or... I just don't know.
Anyway, because I saw the movie, I could finish the book without getting too annoyed.
Of course I know this is a classic and you have to see it in the context of the period it was published (1895), but it wasn't for me; I thought it was just okay.
